In many ways, Daredevil is basically a lawyer show. A lawyer...
In many ways, Daredevil is basically a lawyer show. A lawyer show with a superhero. And the best lawyer show of the past twenty years is Damages. DD succeeds because all the lawyer stuff in it looks and feels exactly like similar scenes in Damages. They have nailed the tone perfectly.
In the same way, Agents Of SHIELD is basically a covert espionage show (with superpowers). And the best show in that genre over the past twenty years is 24. AoS fails because all their espionage scenes look and feel nothing like similar scenes in 24. They can’t get the tone right and - consequently - all the dialogue feels like ‘pretend spy talk’.

Because…
- Really superb actors bringing absolutely everything to the table.
- Possibly the best Jack/Chloe scenes the show has ever had.
- In most episodes the story takes a huge leap forward, the tension never lets up, and there are many pivotal character moments.
- Action and storytelling. Thrilling and shocking at every turn.
- Kate Morgan proves to be a very likeable character. A worthy partner/successor to Jack Bauer.
- No other show can deliver unbearable tension, kickass action and a doozy of a twist ending almost every week.
- Relentlessly violent (sometimes quite vicious).
- 24 can do things that no other show can even touch.
- A tapestry of storylines suddenly converge with devastating effect.
- Effortlessly the show reinvents itself, brings new villains into the fold and makes (former) subplots the whole raison d’être of the season.
- 24 NEVER backs away from a sad ending. And that amazing William Devane scene in the closing minutes of the season was one of the saddest things I’ve ever seen anywhere.

Best Show on TV!
This episode illustrates not only what is great about 24, but spotlights all the things that it can do that no other show can even touch. The tapestry of storylines suddenly converge in this chapter with devastating effect. It’s a powerful, violent episode. Remarkably it bears almost no resemblance to the show that aired for the first nine episodes of the season. Effortlessly the show reinvents itself, brings new villains into the fold and makes (former) subplots the whole raison d’être of the season.
Clever, exciting, extraordinary. Nothing equals 24. 10/10

The first half is relentlessly violent (sometimes quite vicious) and successfully brings the main storyline of the season to a satisfactory conclusion.
The second half of the episode deftly switches gears: bringing us a half-hour of building tension, as revelations are made and various loose strands from earlier in the season now tie themselves together remarkably well, establishing a brand new storyline to fill out the rest of the season. 10/10

Hospital. The first ‘big’ episode of the season, so far. High tension, and A LOT of collateral damage. The drone/car chase was exhilarating, even if it veered close to the silly excesses of the James Bond franchise. Impressively, despite all the action, the show find time to advance all of the subplots. Some of them in very interesting ways… 10/10

Best Show on TV! Back half of this episode is unbearable tension, kickass action and a doozy of a twist ending. Yes, they telegraphed the twist too much during the episode, but nonetheless this is a great revelation as far as the overall story goes, and a key revelation for the Kate Morgan (who is awesome in this episode). 10/10

There’s no major plot advancement this time out, but we get a few good character development scenes. Some are clunky (like the Chloe/Jack one, which feels forced and expositional), and some are merely repeating what we already know at this stage (all the Heller/Mark/Audrey scenes) but the others are devoted to interesting new characters (Margot/Simone/Ian).
As well as that we have Jack doing what Jack does best: proving action and tension in sequences that book-end the episode.
A strong episode, without doubt, but the first one this season to show some strain with regard to moving the story forward. 9/10

Michelle Fairley, Joseph Millson . There’s some great character conflict here. Jack & Chloe, and Heller & Mark. Really superb actors bringing absolutely everything to the table. These might be the best Jack/Chloe scenes the show has ever had. 10/10

24. Season 8, Episode 17. "8:00 a.m.-9:00 a.m." Chloe promoted!
A truly amazing episode.
Heart-breaking performance from Necar Zadegan and a wonderful (but expected) continuation of the Peace Talks story. I've really grown fond of this character and seeing her take up the reins like this was epic and touching.
Chloe's promotion was also epic. Totally unexpected and truly superb.
The head to head between Cherry Jones and Gregory Itzin was also epic, giving Jones her best material this season. Having Logan in the game simply raises the stakes to a new level.
Finally, the death of a beloved regular wasn't epic, just heartbreaking. So, so sad. I wish things hadn't gone down this way.
24. Season 8, Episode 18. "9:00 a.m.-10:00 a.m." Taylor at CTU.
Charles Logan is awesome. Watching his go into action was one of the (many) highlights of this episode. First with the Russian bad guy, and then showing his sneaky side, and - finally - trying to convince Taylor to do the wrong/right thing. A great scene for Bob Gunton, Gregory Itzin and Cherry Jones.
Another highlight of the episode was all of the conflict. Jack vs. Chloe is not something we ever wanted to see, but it makes for incredibly compelling television. And then there is the Jack vs. Taylor stuff that occupies much of the episode. Truly gripping.
