Robert Urquhart . Works as a stand-alone story, and a fascinating one at that. Peopled by deeply unpleasant characters who are relentlessly horrible to Billy. He, in turn, takes it well and says very little. And what little does say yields the best lines of the episode (the stuff about never before meeting such unhappy people). Despite being - essentially - a stand-alone story, this is the first episode of the series to give us a lot of vital information on the main storyline. Basically, this is the episode where we learn about Billy’s father for the first time. And an interesting person he seems to have been. The show gets better and better. 10/10

Edward Hibbert . Slow-moving, thought-provoking story-of-the-week about bikers that has absolutely no bearing on the ongoing story arc of Billy’s past, but it gives the viewer fascinating insight into the growth of Billy’s character. And the influence of Mr. Whitaker. Superb. 10/10

Brigitte Horney . The first episode to really capitalise on the show’s premise. There’s a wistful tone, and lots of intrigue and mystery. There is also some great work done in adding backstory to Mr. Whitaker. 10/10

Barriers 1.2
Very different to the first episode, with Billy sidetracked from his quest by some fugitives from a riot. Typically slow-moving and ponderous, however. Asks lots of questions, answers none. 8/10

The Will. Compelling and utterly absorbing. The performances are top notch and the mystery understated. 9/10
