Cesare Danova, Elyssa Davalos. Fast-moving, mysterious and fun.

• In Egypt, Frank sees a girl’s purse being stolen in the street. He chases the thief and gets the purse back for her. Except… she doesn’t want it back, and runs off. What’s going on?
• This one is a lot of fun, with a lot of interesting things happening from the start and some major story points left unexplained until late in the episode, thus keeping the audience guessing.
  
• Production values are good. Footage from Egypt looks fantastic and is seamlessly matched with the main action. Sets look great, too.
  
• Chemistry/Banter between the two leads is excellent. And all of the comedy in the episode hits the mark.
  
• Great guest cast. Always great to see Cesare Danova or Elyssa Davalos.

Shelly Novack, James Shigeta.

• Slow to start, and slow-moving.


• Looks and feels more like a season two episode, with the boys away from New England, but it’s not as much fun as a typical s2 adventure..


• The guest cast is good. The two girls are pretty and likeable, and really add a lot to the story.


• Joe sings.


• Some of the dialogue is witty.


• It’s a basic story, but it successfully generates mystery on a couple of story points.

The Hardy Boys Mysteries 04

Ricky Nelson. Slow to start, with a lot of extraneous scenes involving a plane in trouble, it finally comes together for a tense, enjoyable third act as Frank and Joe try to piece the clues together in time to stop a bomb going off. (At least that’s what they think is about to happen.) In this final third the episode is at it’s best, as the actors’ chemistry and the boys’ personalities make for enjoyable banter. 7/10
