07:30 Scrubs
08:00 Greek
10:00 WKRP in Cincinnati
10:30 The Bionic Woman
What's my personal highlight of Scrubs season six? Is it the wacky fantasy sequences? Nope, although there was a funny one in this 13th episode with JD and Turk as Cavemen. Is it the fact that supposed bad-guy Bob Kelso has moments of decency and is a well-fleshed out supporting character? Nope, although this episode put him front and centre as he watched out for an unwell friend who didn't have insurance. Is it the crazy janitor? Nope, although this episode featured a really out-there story for him, as he blackmailed Carla in an effort to buy her baby! Is it Doctor Cox's rants? Nope, but this episode had some top notch rants. Cox was trying to convince Elliot that the reformed drug-addict guy from a previous episode is still using. It was great stuff.
But my favourite part of Scrubs right now? When they take shots at Grey's Anatomy. First Cox, then Elliot, and finally JD mentioned the show. Great. Althougth my favourite is still "it's like they've been watching our lives and then just put it on TV" line from last year. Man, I love that kind of thing.
After Scrubs, I caught up with this week's Greek. Highlight? Clark Duke having more scenes than usual. His character got to meet Casey for the first time. Hilarious. And he ended the episode with a killer (?) guitar solo.
WKRP in Cincinnati is revered as a classic, and from some episodes it's clear why. The previous episode was something special, showcasing the station owner and boss, as they prepared for a visit to a grave. This time out - Episode 55 - the whole episode revolved around a painting bought at a charity auction. The writer (Steven Kampmann) simply played the characters off one another. Each is so well drawn, and played, that it's works like clockwork. Herb is mean with money and he drags the painting from one co-worker to another in an effort to off-load it for more than he paid. Idealistic Bailey wants it because she likes it. Best bits? Tim Reid stealing the scene when goes through the motions of appraising the painting, and Herb's eventual realisation (during a phone conversation) that the painting is worthless, after he's out by $600.
Next up, a so-so episode of The Bionic Woman. It's ten episodes into the 2nd season and Jaime goes undercover at the Police Academy to find a foreign agent who's enrolled there. The episode does a pretty good job of generating mystery as to the identity of the spy, but loses points for lots and lots of naff over-dubbing and a badly-edited/shot action sequence at the end where Jaime's truck is run off the road and bursts into flames (for no obvious reason). Still though, Wagner and her guest cast really carry the episode (the first of a two-parter).
My best TV of the night? The emotional punch of Scrubs. Laughs with a heart of gold. You can't beat that.
