12:00 Prison Break
01:00 Californication
01:30 Batman

Prison Break. Season 3, Episode 8. A large part of this season has revolved around Linc being pushed around and defeated at every turn. Frustrating to watch, but there is satisfaction in knowing that there will be a pay-off, and Linc will - somehow - come out on top. This episode may be start of that turning point. In the midst of all the action in the prison, we see Sucre and Linc out in the woods renting a deserted cabin and recoding some sound effects for use at some unspecified future date. Even better, in yet another stand-off with the bad guys, Linc finally manages to score a win for the Good Guys. In cool fashion, too. With excellent support from the ever-loyal Sucre. It's just a pity Susan (boo! hiss!) wasn't there to suffer. Maybe next time...

Californication. Episode 12 sees the saga of the tragically-flawed Hank Moody draw to a close (for now) with some questions still unanswered. Even without the twist at the end, it was a great episode. Mia gets a lot of screen-time in this episode and she really in a fascinating character. Her apparent concern for Becca and her admission to Hank as they danced are both reasons to like her. Even her Dad's reaction to (what he believes is) her novel is pretty lousy. So, despite the fact that she is screwing up Hank's life in major way, I'm inclined to like the girl. Major praise to Madeline Zima for her work on the show.

Batman. Episode 25 sees the introduction of the fascinating Temple Fugate, an obsessive little man with a particular hatred for the Mayor of Gotham City. The hatred is explained in a long flashback which occupies the first 5 minutes of the episode. After that, we jump forward seven years and join Mayor Hill on the re-election campaign trail. After some things go awry Batman's suspicions are aroused and he does some detective work, leading to the episode's high-point: Batman trapped in a bank vault, with a bomb and a tape recorder guessing his every move. Nifty. The climax takes place on a clock tower with the Mayor's life at stake. Nothing very special about this closing battle, but this is a good episode, driven by a genuinely fascinating villain.
