08:00 The Shield
09:00 She-Wolf Of London
The Shield. Season 3, Episode 10. This episode perfectly highlights the genius of The Shield. Clever writing makes for unbearable tension as Aceveda and Mackey both pull out all the stops in their search for the same man. Good Guy Aceveda is after the guy who sexually assaulted him in an earlier episode, while "Bad Guy" Mackey (not knowing what is really going on) needs to stop them meeting at all costs, for fear that it will provide Aceveda with information on his ties to criminal activity. Watching both men working frantically, while only we know the full story, makes for great television. Wondering how far Aceveda will go in his quest for revenge adds another level of tension to proceedings. Will he cross the line? Will he kill? Or does he have something worse in mind?
She-Wolf Of London. Episode 2. Although Randi makes reference to the advertisement she and Ian placed at the end of episode 1, this particular story is not generated from the premise of the series. Instead, it comes the way of many yarns on weekly TV fare: a relative/friend of the hero is involved in something and the hero goes to help. In this case, Ian's aunt has gone and dug up the corpse of a long-dead hanged man. Being She-Wolf Of London that corpse is soon on the rampage killing everyone and anyone in her quirky little English village. Randi and Ian are soon on the trail, and the episode is absolutely littered with grisly deaths, hilarious one-liners and unbelievable sexual tension. The scene where our heroes must share a bedroom is one of the funniest, sweetest moments I have ever seen on TV. Unlike similar scenes in hundreds of other shows, the characters here discuss their feelings (and decision not to act on them) in an open and frank manner. Like real-life people. All the while gazing at one another while the air positively sizzles with their chemistry. Marred only by an occasional weak guest actor this is a superb episode of She-Wolf Of London, and a fine example of why the show has such devoted fans nearly twenty years after it's first airing.
