NCIS. Season 5, Episode 9. "Lost & Found" The ending may be a tad too neat to be believed, but this is still a wonderful episode of NCIS.
A kid touring NCIS HQ, with McGee, is revealed to have been abducted many years previous, which leads Gibbs and the team to launch a manhunt for the kid's father. The clever start makes this much more than another case-of-the-week, and the subject matter allows the writers to explore/show fresh views of Gibbs and his boss lady: Jenny Shepard. Since Gibbs is always dealing with (a) his team, (b) suspects there aren't a lot of shades to the character. Now he's got a cute kid to play off. The same goes for Jenny, who is perpetually shown in conflict with Gibbs. In this one, we see her softer/feminine side. Yes, it's a cliché but it's good for the character. And for the viewers/fans because we love to see stuff like this.
Once again Ziva and Tony get a lot of alone-time as a team and they light up the screen. Gosh, I wonder is this leading somewhere...
Damages. Season 2, Episode 2. "Burn It, Shred It, I Don't Care" Just like last season, every single line of dialogue from every single character is suspect.
In any given conversation between A and B, you have cause to wonder whether A is lying or not. And you then have cause to wonder whether B knows this and is just pretending to believe what is being said to them.
Which opens another can of worms. What if A is telling the truth, and B is wrong to think they are lying.
Such an amazing show. Causes as many headaches as Lost and Battlestar Galactica. And that's pretty high praise.
24. Season 7, Episode 4. "11AM - 12PM" With the four regular characters back together, and two really superb new characters, this seventh season of 24 is shaping up to be very good indeed.
Jack and Tony leave New CTU HQ and head back to the bad guy's lair where - after some violence and killing - they move out and attempt to kidnap a VIP (to maintain their cover and get closer to their goal).
All the usual things that make 24 fun to watch are back in place. Jack and his team know the truth, but they do not know who they can trust, so they must go it alone and have all the other good guys trying to stop them at every turn. It's great fun. Yes, we've seen this before on the show. Who cares? It's great fun.
Chloe and Bill sit at New CTU and worry. I adore Chloe and love all the screen time she gets in this episode. Bill has a beard now. Is that to make him look tough?
Meanwhile Renee and the president's husband get some great scenes. Scenes where they appear to be heroic and interesting characters.
Finally, how cool to see Ever Carradine standing beside Jeffrey Nordling! She stood beside him once, and again she's doing it. :)
It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia. Season 3, Episode 14. "Bums: Making a Mess All Over the City" The gang dress up as, and pretend to be, cops!
Instant classic. All five regulars are amazing (and hilarious) in scene after scene. One of the reasons the show works (and is such a pleasure to watch) is because it demonstrates relentless energy in creating new storylines and it simply does not know when to stop when it has an idea. Frank and Dennis work as street cops and - in a few short scenes - the script creates several classic skits around that concept. The matching of these two characters and the idea of being a cop is inspired. And constantly laugh-out-loud funny as we watch them harass jaywalkers for money, etc.
Charlie becomes a Serpico-like 'undercover cop' and throws himself into the fantasy with the sort of idiotic gusto that works for all-time-great TV characters like Kramer. Sweet Dee and Mac, meanwhile, become urban vigilantes and - for their efforts - get mugged.
But the biggest laughs in the episode go to Jack Bauer, the indestructible cat.
Night Court. Episode 8. "Quadrangle of Love" Harry, Bull and Dan are all interested in the same woman.
It starts off fairly weak, with Dan madly in love, but things soon perk up when the subject of his interest announces that she is going on a date with Bull, shortly after asking Harry to go to a a concert with her.
With that very slim idea, the writers/cast manage to generate a lot of laughs. Highlight? Harry suggests all three men hold hands to curb their mutual aggressions.
Highlight? It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia (instant classic)
