Columbo 40

Theodore Bikel, Jamie Lee Curtis.

  • A mixed-bag episode.
  • The final third is terrific, with great insight into both Columbo and the murderer as the two share stories from their past.
  • The murder itself is clever, perhaps a shade too clever to be believed. And the same goes for the climax, where our hero forces the murderer to blurt something out and reveal himself.
  • As a whole, the story lacks tension. Bikel’s character seems scared and on the run from the very start.
