Mystery Science Theatre 3000. Season 7, Episode 16. "Racket Girls" An odd movie, and a perfect choice for MST3K. One-third gangster flick, one-third ladies wrestling and one-third exploitation, it's a laugh-riot with or without the riffing from the gang.
The movies opens with a long (boring) wrestling match. No dialogue, no music, no nothing. Just endless wrestling. This happens a few more times in the movie: the story grinds to a halt and we watch wresting for a while. Hilarious. The story - such as it is - concerns a small-time gangster who gets into trouble with his boss, and also has to contend with the most laid-back senatorial investigation ever shown on screen.
The rest of this movie is devoted to a very buxom starlet who joins the gangsters gym. We get lots and lots and lots and lots of scenes of her in the gym (and, curiously, out in the desert) and the camera pays loving attention to her legs and breasts at every opportunity.
Indeed, many of the females parade around in their underwear for large sections of the movie. Given that this is in 1950s underwear (which has a less than erotic effect on the viewer) the guys have a field day with jokes about aunts and grandmothers and so forth.
Definitely one of the funniest MST3K episodes.
NewsRadio. Season 3, Episode 2. "Review" Matthew takes centre stage when he becomes obsessed with the Dilbert cartoon strip and demands that Dave allow him to do a story on it.
NewsRadio is at it's best, I feel, when the episodes are devoted to Dave patiently dealing with his idiot staff and their silly notions. This is a great episode for showcasing that formula. As well as the Matthew stuff, Bill & Lisa are obsessed with a magazine review of the station and Joe devises a new way for the staff to break into Dave's office. This latter idea leads to some great laugh-out-loud moments, with Matthew and Beth both suspended from the ceiling (Mission Impossible style) at different stages of the episode.
Highlight? Mystery Science Theatre 3000 (endless scenes of wrestling)
