The Big Bang Theory. Episode 16. "The Peanut Reaction" The gang plan a surprise party for Leonard (who's never had a birthday party).
There are two threads in this one, and both are funny. Penny and Sheldon are paired at an electronics store (while he gift shops). Sheldon paired with anyone is funny, and this is no exception. Meanwhile Wolowitz fakes a reaction to peanuts to get the birthday boy out of the apartment.
Solid episode.
CSI. Season 6, Episode 7. "A Bullet Runs Through It" Brass and Curtis are part of huge gun battle that Gil and the team must investigate.
Another break-with-formula episode. And another superb episode. The opening battle is breath-taking, Paul Guilfoyle gives a great performance, the story has a real 'epic' feel to it, and the cliff-hanger is shocking.
Sofia Curtis is not a character I'm warming to, at all. I'm glad she is out of the lab, but even as a cop she bugs me. Brass offers a shoulder to lean on, twice, during this episode. She rebuffs him. Preferring to deal with stuff alone. Maybe her seem, in my eyes, like an unsympathetic and arrogant character. Not sure where they are going with this, but they are losing me.
Never mind, I love all the other regulars. And they all get some great scenes in this one. Greg gets to cover miles and miles of open road and moans about it (all Greg scenes are great), Sara deals with a family whose home has been ripped apart by gunfire and Warrick is punched by a bystander. Most CSI stories are story-driven and nothing else. This one has the added layer of public resentment being directed at the police, who are being blamed for the chase.
The guest stars are top notch, too. Three of my all-time favourite performers give great turns here: Steve Ryan as a street cop, A Martinez as an angry dad, and Nestor Serrano as a mean-spirited Internal Affairs cop. I love all three but Martinez, in particular, isn't on TV enough.
Greek. Episode 21. "Barely Legal" Rusty pretends to be someone that he is not, and Casey learns that she is not quite who she thought she was.
Week after week, Greek delivers laugh-out-loud comedy and cerebral character drama with ease. The Casey storyline here is very satisfying to watch. The tale of girl trying very hard to get into a career in law without really knowing why anymore. Evan, of course, is there to 'help' her every step of the way and Casey is totally clueless as to the way she has been manipulated. It falls to Frannie (in an inspired move) to set in motions the events that will reveal what Evan has been up to...
It's great stuff. No matter what he is doing, the viewer cannot help but like Evan. He plays dirty, yes, but he does love Casey. Frannie, meanwhile, is another grey-area character. You might like her, you might hate her. You can't really trust her, but it's great to see her using Ashleigh to get the truth out.
And while all this is going on, Rusty is knee deep in the funniest storyline they have yet done on the show. Using a 'borrowed' ID Card he fools a nice bartender (the very hot Erin Cahill) into thinking he is a singer with a cult following. Cappie tries to warn him against letting this go out of control, but Rusty won't listen. And, by episode's end, he is sitting front of a wedding party who expect him to entertain them!! A true comedy highpoint in the series so far.
The Closer. Season 4, Episode 11. "Good Faith" A death, previously ruled a suicide, is now being investigated as a murder. Which requires a delicate touch. So, obviously, they gave the case to Brenda...
The events of the previous cliffhanger are now a distant memory and Sanchez is now back at work, but not at full duty. The episode deviates somewhat from formula by not having a live crime scene for the team to investigate. Instead they have to make do with photos of the body and a mannequin on the floor. It's not much of a change, but it does make an otherwise average story a bit more interesting.
NewsRadio. Season 3, Episode 5. "Halloween" The gang dress up for Jimmy's Halloween party.
A change-of-pace episode with very little to do with life in the office. The comedy comes from Bill's being told the date of his death (and over-reacting to it) and Lisa being jealous that Dave looks better in her dress than she does.
Ho-hum.
Highlight? CSI (epic)
