Friends. Season 3, Episode 7. "The One with the Race Car Bed" Joey teaches Acting Class, Monica buys a bed, Ross fights with Rachel's dad.
This one opens with a short scene allowing us to hear what the characters are thinking. Cute. I like when shows that have been around for a while do something that deviates from the status quo. It makes everything seem fresh again.
This cute device allows the audience to find out that Gunthar (James Michael Tyler) is secretly in love with Rachel, something that becomes a running joke from here on in.
In the episode itself, (the underrated) Matt LeBlanc gets to generate some hearty laughs as we see Joey teach/explain the acting craft. And Ron Leibman, one of my all-time favourite actors (he was Kaz!), makes a second appearance as Rachel's unfriendly dad. The dad storyline runs familiar sitcom territory, but it works really well here.
