Friends. Season 3, Episode 14. "The One with Phoebe's Ex-Partner" And the gorgeous Sherilyn Fenn!
The three plotlines here are driven by the three guest characters, but the actors guesting on the show barely appear and we are still watching our six friends.
Sherilyn Fenn guests are Chandler's new girlfriend, Steven Eckholdt's character Mark continues to make Ross behave like a boob (and thus drive him and Rachel futher apart) while Elizabeth Daily plays the songwriting partner who ran out on Phoebe years ago. Practically every scene has the regulars talking about these three guest characters. But, wisely, we only see them for brief scenes dotted about the episode. Many sitcoms allow the guests to dominate episodes and it often works beautifully. Friends didn't travel that route. Screentime for peripheral characters was usually kept to a minimum and focus was always on the main six.
