The Mary Tyler Moore Show. Season 2, Episode 5. "A Girl's Best Mother Is Not Her Friend" Nancy Walker
An absolute delight from start to finish. The plot is slight, but the cast (particularly Nancy Walker) makes it sing. So much so that every scene left me with a big grin on my face. And it is a real treat to see Nancy Walker paired with the likes of Cloris Leachman and Edward Asner.
While the story is basic (Rhoda's mum wants to be her best friend) it does have it's heart in the right place and it successfully adds to the already established conflict between the two characters. Several scenes are laugh out loud funny, but the best moment has to be when Rhona walks into the newsroom and finds that her mother is wearing the exact same dress as her. In this case, as in all others, it really is a case of a script being lifted to new heights by the performers.
