Wolverine And The X-Men. Episode 2. "Hindsight, Part 2"

Wolverine And The X-Men. Episode 2. "Hindsight, Part 2" Rogue's Story

The first episode was good. It established a good backstory (mansion in ruins, X-Men scattered and living apart/on the run for a full year) and told a good story-of-the-week (Wolverine gets Beast to help him rescue a family wrongly imprisoned for helping him). It was good, I enjoyed it and I was happy to come back for a second good episode.

Imagine my surprise when the second episode turned out to be great. Spectacularly so. The focus shifted to Rogue, but the story managed to give many other X-Men (and X-Men foes) a turn in the limelight. Wolvie was almost relegated to the background. And it worked. Suddenly the world surrounding him has come alive with a variety of very interesting characters. On all sides of the law.

There was lots of action. In different locations. For different reasons. And the shifting allegiances of the characters (mainly Rogue) added a whole new level to the on-screen action. Warren's father's motives, for instance, serve to make the episode a cut above the average.

Wolverine's attempts to put the team back together really started to feel like a struggle here, given the reaction he got from people like Cyclops, and it promises to be an interesting story.

The ending really blew me away. It was dark. And surprising. Yet, given what had gone before, it made total sense.

Grade: A+
