12.00 Action
Action. Episode 1. "Gross Player" Peter's new film flops, he meets Wendy and buys a script called "Beverly Hills Gun Club".
Not the funniest/best episode of Action, but still a great start to the series as we meet our obnoxious hero for the first time. Peter Dragon is an arrogant movie producer, who fits right in with the scum of Hollywood that he must deal with on a daily basis. The pilot shows us what happens to him when his newest blockbuster flops, and two people enter his life for the first time: a prostitute named Wendy, and a TV writer named Adam. Peter likes Wendy from the moment he meets her (because of her brutal honesty, and - of course - the sex helps) and Peter hates Adam from the moment he meets him (but in the tradition of all good sitcoms, he needs him and so much make nice with him).
There are lots of laughs here. Jay Mohr keeps us liking Peter, even when the material might make us hate him, and his scenes with Illeana Douglas are underscored with genuine affection/respect which makes the whole show much more interesting.
