The Mary Tyler Moore Show 3.23 Herbie Faye. The comedy highlight...

The Mary Tyler Moore Show 3.23

Herbie Faye.

  • The comedy highlight here is undoubtedly the part where Lou has to carry Mary around the office, after she falls and sprains her foot. Several ingenious little touches (chair, telephone, door) add to the laughter. Wonderful.
  • This story takes a long time to get going. It all seems really random for the first few scenes until we figure it out: Mary is having a run of bad luck!
The second half is definitely funnier, as the catastrophes add up.
  • Mary’s speech at the end is another comedy highlight. Mary Tyler Moore doesn’t get enough of this kind of business to do. She excels.

9/10

The Mary Tyler Moore Show 3.12

Gerald Michenaud . It’s an okay story, but too much of the screentime/jokes are given over to the guest star. It’s Mary and the gang we want to see! Cloris Leachman does have one fantastic scene, however. Very serious. Not played for laughs. And it is easily the highlight of the episode. 5/10

The Mary Tyler Moore Show 3.7

Nanette Fabray, Bill Quinn. A serious storyline, extremely well performed, with many hilarious moments. The comedy is mostly confined to the workplace, while Mary's (very mature, very adult) problems with her parents are mostly played straight. It takes a while to get going, but the final third is really superb. 9/10
