• When Veep gets to a real final episode, how can they possibly top this? So much story and comedy. So wonderfully downbeat.
• I had no idea what way the story would go. And I have no idea what the next season will look like. It’s great to be able to say that about any TV show.

Veep 5.9

• Gimmick episodes like this are a mixed blessing. Yes, they can be clever and fun but they also make you feel like you have missed an episode of your favourite show. I remember feeling that way about some of the Moonlighting episodes back in the 80s and I feel the same now. 
• Having said that: this is a funny and clever outing, allowing us another look at scenes we’ve been before from a new angle. The Mike stuff was the best.
  
• Also: the big story arc of the season reaches a climax. What next?

Great to see Sally Phillips back on the show. Several great scenes with Julia Louis-Dreyfus who was at her best here, in a script which made use of mistaken assumptions and confusion in a way the show never does. Being away from Washington also made this feel like an episode from a very different show. Still funny, though. 10/10

Peter MacNicol. Great developments for Dan and Jonah. Very exciting storylines ahead. 10/10

While this is funny in places, it lacks the sparkle of the show’s best episodes. With her mother’s death, the focus is very much on Selina and we can see (with a lot less subtlety than in most episodes) just what a terrible person she truly is. 9/10

• Less story-driven than opener.
  
• Very funny, across the board: seems like every character got a chance to shine here.
  
• And there are so many great characters now. Is this the largest cast we’ve ever had in a sitcom? (Does Soap beat it?)
  
• Best characters? Richard cracks me up, as does Mike. And both were terrific here. Consistent laughter every time they appeared on screen.
• Loving the two new (romantic) story arcs, too. Assuming they both continue past this episode. And I hope they do.

Ethan Phillips. Complete departure from formula. Truly hilarious. Everyone on top form, especially Matt Walsh who steals the show. 10/10

Relative to the season so far, this is quite a serious, story-driven episode with focus once again on Hugh Laurie, as his character Tom James causes a problem for the campaign and then finds out some stuff (from earlier in the season) about another problem that is looming (the data leak). 8/10
