Branded 04
Jason Evers. Told in broad strokes, with plenty of rousing action, this is a sincere story about pacifism. Ending ties things up very neatly. 8/10
Branded 03
- Best episode of the run so far (and a wise choice to open the series).
- It’s a really good story, gripping from the start, with genuine character-based drama.
- The location filming really conveys the grueling nature of the predicament the two men are in.
- The ending overplays it’s hand a little bit (by bringing the little girl into the story too much) but it’s definitely the right ending.
Branded 02
Jeanne Cooper . Starts off as a basic bad-guy-arrives-in-town story, and gets deeper and darker as it goes on. The highpoint is undoubtedly a conversation between McCord and his friend about reputation and respect. For this hero and this show it’s all about being judged for what you do, as opposed to what people say about you. McCord’s a complex guy because, as we saw in the first episode, he could clear his name if he chose to. After this scene, which occurs fairly early on, the story becomes a murder story, and a lot of screen-time is spend reflecting on the dishonourable behaviour of various townsfolk. The tale tracks to conclusion as expected, with some quick-draw action at the climax and the tone remains suitably grim. 7/10
Branded 01
June Lockhart, Claude Akins. Does an adequate job of establishing the backstory, and telling us what motivates the hero. The cast is good, but there’s nothing here to get very excited about. 6/10
