Tour of Duty 1.3

Tia Carrere, William Sadler. Good story, plenty of action and plenty to say about the war. Great cast chemistry is very evident now, not just the two leads but everyone in the ensemble are really clicking now. 9/10

Tour of Duty 1.2

Tunnels. Better than the pilot, with plenty of action, a good story and the first sign of the Goldman/Anderson team in action. 9/10

Tour of Duty 1.1

  • Enjoyable opener, slowed down by having to introduce so many characters.
  • Lt. Myron Goldman seems arrogant and clueless here, very much out of character. If memory serves, Goldman is much closer to his ‘real self’ in the second episode. The bond between him and Anderson (so vital to the show) is missing here and the show suffers without it. The friendship gets off to a bad start. Interesting to see, in retrospect, but certainly not as interesting.
  • Of the rest of the platoon, it is probably Johnson who makes the best impression.
  • Action-wise, two good sequences bookend the pilot. The final one is particularly good.
  • Drama-wise, the script repeatedly questions the war through Horn and succeeds in being thought-provoking entertainment.

8/10

Before we all had access to the internet, Epi-Log Magazine was THE source for reference and research when it came to episode synopses, titles, airdates, writers, directors, etc. Even now, it has some information you simply can’t get anywhere else. I have a near-complete run of issues.
