- Enjoyable opener, slowed down by having to introduce so many characters.
- Lt. Myron Goldman seems arrogant and clueless here, very much out of character. If memory serves, Goldman is much closer to his ‘real self’ in the second episode. The bond between him and Anderson (so vital to the show) is missing here and the show suffers without it. The friendship gets off to a bad start. Interesting to see, in retrospect, but certainly not as interesting.
- Of the rest of the platoon, it is probably Johnson who makes the best impression.
- Action-wise, two good sequences bookend the pilot. The final one is particularly good.
- Drama-wise, the script repeatedly questions the war through Horn and succeeds in being thought-provoking entertainment.
