Scrubs. Season 8, Episode 7. "My New Role" Cox's first day as Chief Of Medicine.

By giving Cox the job that previously belonged to Kelso, the show has managed to do wonders for the characters of Cox, JD and Kelso.

The conversations in this (wonderful) episode underscore everything that happened between these characters over the previous seven seasons and gives all of them a wonderful awareness of their roles in the hospital, and life in general. Kelso appears to be the wisest of the three, which is fitting, and there is something epic and tragic and wonderful about their new/old relationships.

A very clever and very satisfying episode of Scrubs. Still funny, but not silly now. Really strong and dramatic and all the better for it.

Dexter. Season 4, Episode 1. "Living The Dream" Dexter is Married... With Children.

A light-hearted season opener, with a great cliff-hanger.

Dexter is now a married man, with a baby. And his life, and his dark passenger, are changed. The show cleverly shows this by delivering a parody/remake of the show's opening title sequence in which we see a tired and disshevelled Dexter getting ready in the morning.

Hilarious. And clever.

Comedy aside, this is a strong episode. Dexter has a case-of-the-week (and the dilemma of finding time/privacy to carry out the dirty deed) and the writers given both Debra and Angel interesting developments in their respective love lifes.

All told, this is a strong start to the new season, and the cliff-hanger is fantastic.

Friday The 13th. Season 2, Episode 4. "Tails I Live, Heads You Die" Coin that kills, and brings the dead back to life.

A great episode. Not only is the cursed object fascinating, but Marilyn Anderson and Billy Riback have dropped the object into the middle of a very interesting story, involving a cult and their attempts to raise past cult members and summon the Devil. Some of the ones brought back have been dead for a very long time and the show makes the most of their unpleasant appearance.

It's a fast-moving tale, too, with a nice twist mid-way through. Sure, it's predictable how the heroes will resolve it, but it still stands as a good twist.
