Friends. Episode 17. "The One with All the Poker"

The first episode of the show that really captures the feeling of being with a group of friends. It's a true ensemble piece from start to finish and there are in-jokes between the friends (like the references to Monica throwing the plate) that make us laugh, even though we never saw the events that started them.

Mission: Impossible. Episode 83. "The Numbers Game" Dictator's bunker.

Takes forever to get going (there are many, many scenes of Jim and the gang on their way to the bunker!!) but once the con is up and running this is one of the most enjoyable episodes.

Leonard Nimoy gets to play a very angry soldier who shoots Jim. All for the benefit of the bad guy, who thinks the whole country has been decimated by a nuclear attack. All so the IMF can get their hands on some money he stole. His wife (nicely played by May Britt) wants the money, too, and there's a rival general in the mix. All running around, with Lee Meriwether's Tracey to keep them busy while Jim and the team do their thing downstairs.

Great ending, too. Just as the bad guy has given up the details of his fortune, the con rapidly falls apart. The bad guy and Jim stand face to face. There's no dialogue. It's all over. Jim and his team make their customary exit as the dejected bad guys sit in contemplative silence. Wonderful.

Legend Of The Seeker. Season 2, Episode 2. "Baneling" Prison.

Wow. Dark stuff. This is frankly superb. Cara has been a great addition to the team. She brings an edge to things. I love the main three characters, but theirs has been a cosy arrangement. Now, they have trust issues and it's great.

And what a great story! With a very high death toll. I mean, every time they opened a door they found six dead bodies.

And twists! Loads of twists. The guy who stole the treasure surprised me. His return to life, after death, surprised me. The identity of the real killer shocked me. And the ending was a total kick in the teeth. How did they get away with something so dark?

Supernatural. Season 5, Episode 10. "Abandon All Hope..." Battling Lucifer.

Two semi-regulars die. I didn't like them very much, but it was still an affecting episode.

Mark Pellegrino blew everyone off the screen with his mesmerising performance as Lucifer. And it was an episode of great performances: Mark Sheppard and Misha Collins were on top of their game.
