Forever Knight. Episode 14. "Spin Doctor" Politics & Journalism
Clumsy, unconvincing story about murders, the election of a new mayor and the role of the press in all of this.
Nick's sidekicks - Nat and Schanke - immediately show a passionate interest in politics, and each roots for a different candidate/suspect in the murders, while Nick gets enraged at their lack of detachment.
Flashbacks reveal that he was the victim of a communist witch hunt back in 1954 and is - thus - very sensitive about unfounded rumours. Or something.
Natalie gets intro trouble for saying too much on camera, and the investigation takes Nick to a sleazy tabloid while Schanke goes undercover (sorta) at campaign HQ.
Amid all of this, it's honestly very hard to see what the episodes is supposed to be about. In a vague way, it's obviously about the press having an unjust effect on the election, but there are other elements in the mix. And everything is drawn with very broad strokes, so - at times - it could almost be seen as parody.
The ending is also a bit unconvincing, as we discover that the murderer is a nut job who - conveniently - goes off the deep end at the climax of the story.
The best thing about the episode is Lisa Howard, who is staggeringly good with the material and outshines everyone, even the regulars.
