The Rockford Files. Season 2, Episode 3. "Gearjammers, Part 1" Rocky sees something he shouldn't.
Three episodes into the new season and still no client/case for Jim. Once again somebody close to him stumbles into trouble. This time: it's his dad, Rocky, who sees something he shouldn't and ends up with a couple of hoods coming after him to put out his lights. Permanently.
It's an annoying episode. Not just cos I don't like the lack of a real client/case (and I certainly don't) but because it takes a hell of a long time to get almost nowhere. The gimmick is: Jim goes looking for his dad and discovers, as he wanders from person to person, from place to place, that his aging dad leads a much more active (secret) live than his boy every suspected. There's a lady love in there, and a secret job, and political ambitions. And... it's all a bit tedious and time-wasting. Fact is: the viewer at home (certainly this one) isn't sure what exactly Rocky saw when he peered into that guys office (money changing hands... a bribe?) and we are waiting for the dots to be connected. Instead, there's lot of light comedy as Jim learns about his dad.
Even at the end of this first part when there are a load a truck hijackings, the viewer is no wiser. And rather than being intrigued, I'm just frustrated.
About the only I liked here was the aforementioned light comedy. It did make me chuckle on several occasions.
