A Young Doctor’s Notebook 1.2

Steve Speirs. Darkly funny and astonishingly grisly. It’s also clever. Especially with regard to the older version of the lead character and how they integrate him into the story, while - using flashfowards - telling his own backstory. The narrative device works much better than it should. So, it’s clever definitely. But, mostly, it’s just hard to watch!! I say that as someone who NEVER turns away no matter how much blood is on screen. Honestly, there were times I just wanted the leg amputation scene to end, or simply cut away. And, yet, extraordinarily, the show was still capable of making me chuckle during the sequence. Haven’t seen a show like this before. 7/10
