Because I was watching with my stomach in knots, fearful because so many things could go wrong for Dexter, Hannah, Deb, etc. And I really wanted them all to find a happy ending. Which, of course, they didn’t in the end.
Because it was a compelling season-long story arc.
Because I loved Charlotte Rampling and her impact upon the series.
Because of the depth of analysis into Dexter’s nature, and the moral questions of who/what/ Dexter is. And the burden/consequences of allowing him to continue.
Because the season was sometimes lighthearted and romantic.
Because, while I didn’t like the ending, the last episode had genuine shocks and tension, and it provided a firm resolution to the overall story. It’s certainly not the ending I would have written. Had it been what I wanted, the show would have been higher on my End Of Year chart. But the fact remains: week-after-week the show was a joy to watch this year. Except for the end. [9.42]
