2014 BEST TV DRAMA #2 -> True Detective

Because…

  • I was in love with this show from the first minute and I never wanted the final minute to arrive, I just wanted to stay in that place with those characters.

  • The main reason for watching is to find out who these two men are, and what happens to them over the years. Each episode takes deeper and deeper into their psyches, building up a comprehensive and engrossing picture of their day-to-day lives, the beliefs and the world they inhabit.

  • The performances are pitch perfect.

  • There’s a tense, lengthy, and visually impressive action sequence.

  • The murder investigation moves along at deceptively fast pace. Mostly the leads just appear to spend their time driving and talking in their car (which I love!) but the case is actually moving along bit-by-bit.

  • The most powerful - loneliest - scenes were the non-case ones. And those are the ones that linger long after the lurid details of the case are forgotten.

  • The series ticks all the boxes you could ever want ticked by a tv series. I laughed, I cried, I had a knot of tension is my stomach for most of the running time.

  • This show even made the nitty gritty of boring paperwork seem riveting!!
