One of the best episodes. Watching the talent show was like watching a car crash in slow motion as the kids all abandoned Maura. Jeffrey Tambor had very little screentime in this episode, but was heartbreakingly superb in those final scenes.
Even before we got this far, this was a great episode. Ali finally has a quality storyline, worth watching and worth getting emotionally invested in, and Josh’s flaws grow more pronounced with every passing episode. Without Maura this would just be another show about selfish characters and it would be hard to like them and care, but because we care for Maura and her journey we want those around her to be… better people.
