The Mary Tyler Moore Show 3.22
A remarkably honest and mature script about a troubled romance.
- The first half is all build-up: Mary gets a phone call from an ex-boyfriend visiting town, and agonises over whether or not to meet him. The second half shows us what they are like together.
- It’s a really well-written and well-performed episode. It plays more like drama than comedy most of the time, as the emotions feel real. Especially in the closing scene.
- The comedy that is in the episode comes from Ted. Ted Knight is in fine form here.
