Vega$. Episode 1. "High Roller"
Vega$ is like The Rockford Files in a parallel universe. The hero is still a private eye, but - in this reality - he's liked and respected by everybody, all his friends are happy to drop everything and do favours for him (even the police seem to work for him) and beautiful women are falling all over him at every turn (one of them is Judy Landers!).
It's fun. But it's fantasy.
The opener threads familiar trails for the genre. Hero rescues teen girl from a life of prostitution, only to have her killed on his watch. He takes it personally (of course) and does everything he can to avenge her. Yadda yadda.
Robert Urich is a perfect lead for a show like this and the climax (where Dan Tanna and his buddies drove a truck into the house of the bad guy) is one of the coolest things I ever saw as a kid and it stayed with me - vividly - for thirty years.
