Z Rock. "Season 1, Episode 9" The boys decide to stop being a rock band, and take a record deal to become a full-time kid's act.
I like this show. It's similar to Flight Of The Conchords, but not as wacky/funny. It's similar to Entourage, but not as mean/tense. It's close to lots of other stuff out there, but it has found it's own beat and rhythm.
In this episode: Dina (their manager) has hit rock bottom, she has no money left. Neither do the boys. And the episode follows two narratives: Dina goes all out to get the boys a record deal, meanwhile (out of genuine concern for Dina) the boys decide to kill their rock-star dreams and become a full-time kid's act.
I love the niceness of this.
And it's funny. Dina is the funniest character, and her argument with Joan Rivers (via QVC) is one of the funniest things I've seen in a while.
People Like Us. Episode 2. "The Estate Agent"
Nick, the estate agent at the center of this documentary, leads his team and tends to hang important notices upside down, like his assistant and his co-worker.
His assistant is endlessly bombarding people with a bombardment of endless questions, like Alison Tyler, who is very sad about the ending of her marriage.
His co-worker (Sarah Alexander) is a gorgeous flirt who has broken his heart, and caused Roy to be injured by a cricket bat, so much so that he feels he may never love again.
(The show's use of the english language is twisted, clever and wonderful. And, while incredibly funny, it can be genuinely sad.)
Wings. Season 2, Episode 10. "There's Always Room for Cello" Roy's son is gay.
This was actually the third episode produced, but NBC held it back a season because they were nervous about the subject matter.
It's an okay episode. Roy's inability to accept that his son is gay is a one-note joke but the show manages to make it work, pretty much, for the full half-hour.
Highlight ? Z Rock (nice)
